No, I am not talking about the latest movie, or even the state of our world right now. I am talking about your tongue.
Compared to other things that are considered dirty on a microbial level, like your towel which you should not use more than twice, or a toilet seat or any other disgusting thing that you can think of, the tongue overtakes them all.
Right off the bat, James 3:1 hits us (teachers) with a stark statement. It says that not many of us should become teachers because, those of us who teach will be judged more stricter. In fact the words he used in the ESV is “greater strictness.” I am not even relating to how people “judge” you, moreover, it’s how God will judge you. Remember, you (and I) are not a judge. Why should we not all be teachers? Because we aren’t perfect in any way. The scripture says that if we don’t stumble, we are perfect, and if we are perfect, that means that we are capable of bridling the whole body. Do you have control of you?
The tongue is the most dangerous part of the body. I love how James puts it in verse 5. He says, “How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!” In the USA and many other parts of the world, a lot of people are hurting today. All because of the tongue. “It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” In verse 10 it says “From the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.”
Let us be careful in what we do, in what we say, in how we act, in how we respond. We may not all be teachers by profession, but we are fathers, mothers, pastors, leaders, big brothers and big sisters. There is always someone that is looking up to you. Let God take control of you, cause the ‘you’ that you see in the mirror everyday, can never control you!
Read James 3:1-12. It’s a real tongue twister.
How is your walk in the Lord today?
